Abstract Canvas Art For The Modern Child’s Bedroom

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” ~ Pablo Picasso

"Lavender Flowers" at EverythingWallArt.com

Decorating a child’s bedroom with abstract canvas wall art is becoming more popular. Gone are the days when parents would decorate a kid’s room with cartoon inspired artwork. Modern kids and parents today have more sophisticated tastes and do not use loud paintings to decorate their modern and minimalist homes.

Old fashioned wall art won’t go very well with minimalist furniture and contemporary home designs. You can decorate a child’s modern bedroom by hanging some abstract art on the walls that are still age appropriate. Modern painting will look more suitable than cartoonish wall art. Decorating with paintings is also practical and economical.

Benefits of Hanging Paintings in a Kid’s Room

You can add color in a room without painting all the walls shocking fuchsia or pink. This makes it easier to redecorate a bedroom as the child gets older. After a few years, your child might want to change the color theme in her bedroom from pink to yellow. You can replace the pink painting with a new canvas with some yellow in it. You won’t have to repaint the entire room if the walls are in a neutral color.

Decorating a room with paintings is also economical. Instead of placing flowery wallpaper on all the walls in your kid’s room, you can just paint the wall with a neutral color and then embellish the walls with a few flower canvas paintings. When your child tires of flowers, you can just replace the paintings with a canvas depicting a different subject.

It will be more economical to decorate with canvas wall art which will be easier to change or replace than having the whole room repainted. Maintain neutral colors on major items such as walls, furniture and bed frames. Enhance the decor and design theme with smaller decorations like abstract canvas art, upholstery and area rugs.

Decorating for a Modern Kid

Today’s 9 to 16 year old kids might prefer modern abstract paintings to traditional looking artwork. There are abstract paintings that are age appropriate in kid friendly colors. Contemporary artwork will look great with modern kid’s furniture which is more streamlined and minimalist.

You might not be able to find modern abstract art for kids at art galleries because most items at galleries are for adult tastes. You can find more choices on the internet. Check art stores online and look for abstract canvas pieces with kid oriented colors and designs.

Get for your child’s opinion first before buying artwork. You should be able to find more mature flower canvas, animal canvas and abstract canvas paintings that look contemporary and modern yet suitable for a child’s bedroom.

Canvas Wall Art Buying Tips

Canvas Wall Art at EverythingWallArt.com

Decorating with canvas wall art is an important part of making your home look and feel more comfortable and lived-in. Choosing the appropriate kind of painting can really set the mood, whether you are trying to create a calm and relaxing ambiance or one that is exciting and upbeat.

A beautiful painting can make the perfect finishing touch to a well-decorated house. Actually no well-appointed home will look complete without any artwork. It’s imperative to choose the right kind of painting that will not clash with its surroundings, your furniture and interior design theme.

Decorating with paintings has become more common these days with art prices reaching affordable levels. This makes it easier to buy artwork as home decor pieces. This also makes it easier to make design and decorating mistakes.

For people not trained to gauge artwork or schooled in interior design, it can be difficult to pick the right canvas for your home. Maybe these tips can help you buy appropriate artwork for your walls.

Picking the right colors is very important if you want your decorations and furniture to match. Before buying your canvas, base your choice on the colors present in the room you plan to decorate. Use colors that you find on your area rug, decor pieces or upholstery.

Avoid getting a painting with a dominant color that is the same as your wall paint. You’ll need to provide contrast between your walls and artwork to make your canvas stand out. If you want a relaxing ambiance, pick paintings with cool colors. Warm colors can energize people in the room.

Choose appropriate subjects in the painting that will match the purpose of your room. For example, if you are decorating your daughter’s bedroom, consider dainty flower canvas. If you are going to hang the painting in the dining room, buy paintings depicting food and fruits.

Hanging landscape canvas in your living room is also suitable. Sunsets look great for the master’s bedroom and wine canvas will be suitable for your home mini-bar. Maybe your bathroom could use a water motif like a beach canvas.

Match the painting style to your furniture and interior design concept. If your home is designed in minimalist style or looks ultra modern, an abstract canvas art set will be an excellent choice. If you decorated your home with Asian style furniture, consider Asian themed paintings.

Make sure that you take measurements before purchasing your canvas wall art. It would look too funny to hang a small painting in a huge room with large walls. You also have to be careful about hanging oversized canvas wall art on a large wall in a small room. People will have to move a few meters back to appreciate large canvas paintings.

Whatever type of painting you choose, make sure that it matches your interior decor and your personal taste. If you feel a certain attraction and affinity to a painting and you think it will go well with your home, then go ahead and buy it before someone else does.

Narrow Canvas Wall Art For Small Apartments

Narrow canvas at EverythingWallArt.com

Narrow canvas wall art make interesting decor. They are not conventional in shape and can be used to decorate unusual wall spaces such as narrow spaces between two windows.

Narrow paintings are also ideal wall decor for small apartments with limited space. Although your apartment may be tiny, it still deserves to be decorated with some artwork.

You can place narrow paintings at the end of a narrow hallway or in a small vertical space that has no function or other furniture like shelves or cabinets. Awkward and unused spaces don’t have to be left bare.

Use that awkward empty space wisely by placing something decorative on it. Understandably, you will be using large wall space for storage space.

Why leave awkward narrow spaces bare if you can use that space to make a room more beautiful?

Other places where narrow canvas wall art will fit in are between a counter and high wall shelves, between  the top of your headboard and a low ceiling.

You can also place narrow canvas wall art on narrow divider walls, between windows and between a window and corner of the room. They make great decorating solutions for awkward spaces.

Before buying your painting, take some measurements and allow some negative space around the canvas. Make sure that there is enough empty wall space around the painting to create some balance.

5 Reasons Why Canvas Art Sets Are Cool Decorations

Canvas art sets at EverythingWallArt.com

Canvas art sets are cool looking wall art that come in 2 to over 6 pieces of canvas. They are composed of several canvas pieces but make up a single artwork. They have become quite popular all over the world. Even if these kinds of paintings are in-demand, they are still affordable and abundant at art galleries or online art stores.

They are sold as standard sets in uniform sizes or as an offset canvas art set to add a unique and interesting touch to your wall decor. Common subjects used for sets are beach scenes and landscapes aside from contemporary, modern and abstract themes. Sometimes you can find sets depicting still art such as wine art.

Here are 5 reasons why canvas sets are cool kinds of wall art for your home or office:

  1. They All Match – All the canvas pieces will look coordinated. If you buy individual paintings you risk buying paintings that don’t match. Other setbacks with different paintings hung together are clashing colors, different subject that don’t flow, and issues with canvas sizes. Canvas sets will definitely go well together since they are just single paintings divided into several pieces.
  2. Perfect Decorating Solution For Large Walls – When you buy art sets, you can cover more space within a few minutes. You won’t have to buy several paintings to decorate a big empty wall. If you have to buy several paintings to decorate a long office lobby or a living room with a high ceiling, it might take you months to get all the decorating done.
  3. Ready to Hang – These paintings will be easy to hang, especially if you buy canvas art sets that are ready-to-hang. Ask the art store to install hanging kits for each canvas so all you can hang them immediately when you get them. You won’t have to wire each canvas yourself.
  4. Innovative And Stylish – There are canvas sets that are offset. Offset canvas art sets are made up of a number of canvas pieces in different shapes or sizes. This adds an alternative and fascinating look to your wall. These kinds of paintings will look good with minimalist decor because they break monotony of very simple home designs.
  5. Simply Look Cool – Art sets look hip especially in a modern office home. You can hang these paintings in a dining room, a living room with a high ceiling, or behind a large Kind sized bed. They are also excellent decorating solutions for large spaces in an office lobby, hallways, waiting room or in a boardroom.

Wall Art News: Painting Missing For A Century To Be Exhibited In Britain

"The Seraphs Watch" by Madox Brown, 1847

The public has not seen “The Seraph’s Watch” for more than a century and many thought that the painting was lost forever. But the 1847 artwork by pre-Raphaelite British painter Ford Madox Brown reappeared in Britain two years ago. It will be exhibited in northern England next month at the Manchester Art Gallery.

The oil painting depicts two angels serenely gazing at a crown of thorns. The artwork was last seen by the public in London in 1896. The painting was rediscovered by Julian Treuherz, a curator at Manchester Art Gallery, in a private collection.

Treuherz said “When I saw the painting I knew instantly what it was. It had been regarded as lost but we all knew what it looked like from the copy made by Madox Brown’s pupil, Dante Gabriel Rossetti.” The painting was in excellent condition and looked quite fresh. The artwork did not sustain any damage, added Treuherz, an expert in Victorian art.

"Work" by Ford Madox Brown, 1852-65

A copy of “The Seraph’s Watch” made by Madox Brown’s pupil, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, sold for 100,000 pounds at a 2006 auction. Rossetti took art lessons with Madox Brown, and his first task was to copy “The Seraph’s Watch.”

The exhibit in September will be the first major show of Madox Brown’s wall art in almost 50 years. The exhibit will display over 140 public and private wall art collections including Madox Brown’s “Work” and “The Last of England.”

How To Care For Your Abstract Canvas

"Silver Slice" abstract canvas art set at EverythingWallArt.com

After you buy an abstract canvas you’ll have to care for it whether you paid a high price for it or not. Paintings tend to increase in value after a decade or two and it will be in your best interests to keep your painting in good shape for a long time. Paintings need special care and they can’t be cleaned like you are just dusting off dirt from a table.

You shouldn’t wipe it down with a rag like you would a sculpture or figurine. Your canvas should be dusted lightly from top to bottom with a fine soft brush used by men to lather on shaving cream or a brush you use to apply blush-on. Frequency of cleaning also depends on the amount of dust that enters your house. Don’t dust it off too often unless you live in an extremely dusty part of town.

Hang your canvas away from direct sunlight. The UV rays from the sun will make the paint fade. The heat can also warp the wood support around the canvas. It can also cause paint and the canvas to become brittle. Humidity can also damage your abstract painting. In humid surroundings, molds can develop underneath the glass covering in paintings made of pastel or water color.

The good way to avoid damage to your canvas is by hanging it in an appropriate place. Keeping it in a storeroom exposes it to moisture damage and small insects that can infest the wooden stretcher bars or the painting itself. Hang it on a wall where it belongs. This also keeps your canvas from getting hit and dented.

In the event that your canvas gets a dimple or gets dented, moisten the dented portion at the back with a clean white rag dipped in water and leave it to dry naturally. When the surface dries the canvas stretches and gets rid of the dent.

If you need to move houses or store the painting for a short while, wrap the abstract canvas in acid free paper underneath some bubble wrap. Don’t place heavy things on top of the painting.

Caring for your canvas let’s you enjoy the artwork for a longer time. An abstract painting in good condition also increases in value. If your abstract canvas gets damaged or becomes too dirty, you should consider having it cleaned by a professional conservator.

Flower canvas at EverythingWallArt.com

There are different types of canvas wall art you will find in art galleries and online art stores. Each one has certain characteristics that set it apart from other paintings. In general, a suitable painting should match with the general theme or design of your home. Consider this when buying artwork for your home.

Painting styles you can find in most art stores:

  1. Abstract Canvas – These are modern artworks that are expressive rather than mainstream or traditional creations. Abstracts were born in the 19th century when painters like Picasso and Matisse broke free from traditional methods of painting.
  2. Contemporary Canvas – Contemporary art basically describes artwork that is made by a living artist in present times. These kinds of paintings implement new and innovative painting styles. These kinds of artwork go well, with casual looking contemporary furniture.
  3. Outsider Art – This kind of painting style is pretty close to surrealism which artist Salvador Dali is known for. The subjects on these kinds of paintings often look distorted or contain colors that are not conventional or realistic.
  4. Traditional Canvas – As the name implies, these paintings look traditional and may look realistic or impressionist in nature. These are suitable for conventional or traditional looking interiors. These are quite mainstream and conservative.
  5. Cityscape Canvas – Cityscapes are modern paintings that depict modern or ancient cities. They can be painted in traditional or abstract styles. Some cityscapes depict real cities and scenes from various countries while others depict imaginary city skylines.

  7. Wine Canvas – These are paintings that typically depict wine or vineyards. These are ideal for restaurants, mini-bars at home or cafes. Like flower canvas wall art, these can also be painted in abstract or traditional styles.
  8. Beach Canvas – Beaches are common subjects for paintings. They can look carefree and fun or romantic if painted with a sunset. These are ideal paintings for a bedroom or den. Place these in rooms that are intended for relaxation.
  9. Landscape Canvas – This is another classic painting theme that has been the subject of artists for many centuries. If you want a panoramic landscape scene, get these kinds of paintings as a canvas art set in 3 or more canvas pieces.
  10. Minimalist Paintings – These are similar to abstract canvas wall art but are simpler. Some of the types of canvas wall art do not even contain subjects. They can be as simple as one or two color themed paintings.

Wall Art News: Art and Sub-Atomic Particles Collide at CERN

The CERN Globe

CERN, the Swiss nuclear and science agency that study the Big Bang and what makes the universe tick announced a new program on Thursday, August 4. The focus of its new project focuses on art, canvas wall art and music inspired by the cosmos.

CERN director, Rolf Heuer, a German physicist and classical music fan, said that “The arts and science are linked. Both ways of exploring our existence, what is to be human and what is our place in the universe.”

The new project will be led by a cultural board for the arts to bring artists to work in residence at CERN according to leading Japanese video and photo artist Mariko Mori. “CERN’s challenge, to discover the truth of our existence with revolutionary science, provides inspiration to artists and creators everywhere.”

CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is leading humankind’s efforts “to understand what we are,” said the rising star of international art who creates visions of alien worlds in sculpture, painting and video.

The cultural board at CERN consist of 5 members. Amongst them are a top opera company director from France, a CERN physicist who specializes in cosmic search for matter, a museum chief from Switzerland. The board will choose 2 projects annually for endorsement.

"Space Odyssey" at EverythingWallArt.com

CERN is presently cash-strapped with a budget strictly controlled by a 20 member state. External funds will be raised to fund the new art project according to Heuer. CERN will form partnerships with leading world cultural groups like the Arts Electronica which plans to put CERN at the center of their wall art festivals in Austria and Linz come September.

CERN is known for their subterranean Large Caldron Collider which has inspired trillions of mini-versions of the Big Bang that created the universe over 13 billion years ago. CERN is no new comer in the world of art.

Young researchers have created a jazz band and a small symphony orchestra to convert the sounds of particles smashing into music. Last year, a US artist was invited to use one side of the CERN building as a site of a pop art mural, depicting a “cathedral of science.”

Canvas Wall Art Tips: Creating An Elegant Bedroom

"Glowing Leaf" at EverythingWallArt.com

Making your bedroom look elegant for less isn’t that hard to do. It can be easy to do and affordable if you learn some basic decorating tips.

Linen – Use linen or some of it to decorate your bedroom. There is something about this kind of fabric that produces an elegant look. You don’t have to use it to cover everything. Mix in some linen fabric with your cotton duvet cover or bedroom drapes.

Bed – Add bulk to your bed to give it a hotel-like look. Place fluffy decorative throw pillows on your bed and place an elegant extra thick comforter on the bed to add more bulk. Choose textured fabric for your decorative comforter.

Flowers – Place flowers in more than one place in your bedroom. You can put an orchid in a nice wooden box on your bedside table or place some rose flower petals on your comforter. Instead of placing roses in a vase, put a dozen tulips or blue irises instead.

Curves – Square or rectangular tables might look to industrial or stiff. Use curves to add an elegant flow. Round tables might look good beside your bed instead of the usual functional square night stand.

Colors – Use elegant earth colors like beige, tan, camel, black and gold. If you are partial to bright colors, mute them down with earth tones to soften the look and to add a touch of elegance. Deep tones of olive green and burgundy also work as accent colors for neutral shades.

Accents – Decorate the room with a few choice pieces like an elegant canvas wall art or other simple art pieces like a sculpture. Sculptures aren’t only for the living room. Choose canvas wall art with elegant muted colors too. No loud shocking colors please if you want to maintain that classy bedroom look. Use dim lighting, not white light.

Buy Cityscape Canvas For An Urban Home

"Sydney at Sunset" at EverythingWallArt.com

Cityscape canvas would look nice hanging on the wall of an urban condo or office in the city. Paintings depicting cities, whether well known cities or generic ones will add an air of sophistication to your surroundings.

Cityscape paintings can show famous cities around the world like Paris, Venice or Sydney. You can also get paintings that show cityscapes from an artist’s imagination.

Art is a form of expression anyway and doesn’t always have to copy real life. What is important in a painting is the impression it produces and how it looks to the viewer’s eyes. If you like looking at a certain cityscape, then you should consider it as wall decor for your home or office.

Before you buy artwork, consider the general design of your room, the size of your wall and the colors in the room. Match the theme and colors to your painting and make sure that the canvas is neither too big nor too small for your wall space. Cityscape paintings will look nice in a modern minimalist condo or in your office, boardroom or office lobby.

If you will be using paintings to decorate a big lobby, consider large canvas art sets that can cover a big empty wall in an instant. You can also hang long canvas art sets in a meeting room next to a long boardroom table. Paintings of cities give an impression of professionalism, worldliness and sophistication. If you are going to hang a cityscape canvas in your home, choose a romantic cityscape canvas painting of Venice or Paris.

Wall Art News: Sotheby’s Employees Picket After Locked Out

Sotheby's picketing workers holding placards that say "Stop the War on Workers"

Art handlers and their fellow Teamsters formed a picket outside Sotheby’s on Tuesday after the auction house locked them out. Sotheby’s unionized employees and management are embroiled in disputes regarding a contract dispute.

The contract for 48 art handlers and members of Teamsters Local 814 expired in July. On Friday, Sotheby’s management informed them that they could not return to work at the Manhattan headquarters. Temporary workers have replaced their positions.

Sotheby’s is scheduled for a critical fall sale a month after the lock out which is expected to bring in millions of dollars. The auction house said that they have negotiated in good faith since May and offered the employees a contract with attractive terms. The new contract was rejected by the union.

Sotheby’s spokeswoman, Lauren Gioia said “We will continue to bargain in good faith in the hopes that a new agreement can be reached as soon as possible.” Gioia added, “The lockout of our property nadlers is an outcome that none of use welcome.”

Gioia said that the union’s repeated threats of a strike during negotiations when the fall season is approaching caused Sotheby’s to make alternative arrangements with temporary workers to secure the fall auction. Talks are set to resume next week.

Jason Ide, the union president, said that Sotheby’s had raised a significant amount of money from recent sales and had no reason to seek concessions to their demands. A union statement indicated that the auction house wanted to replace unionized workers with non-union employees.

Ide said that temporary workers have an inferior level of training and service and putting millions of dollars worth of wall art and artifacts in their hands was not a good idea. There are certain techniques involved in handling valuable artwork.

The picketing workers will be joined at the picket line by Teamster Joint Council 16, which represents 33 locals in New York consisting of about 120,000 workers. Picketing workers were seen over the weekend holding signs that read “Stop the War on Workers.”

Abstract art is extremely popular today especially since they go well with today’s modern architecture and furniture styles. Abstract paintings implement color and lose brush strokes to express the artist’s feelings and emotions. Freedom of expression characterizes more abstract paintings today.

Back in the time of Picasso and Matisse, artists struggled with creating something mainstream and art that they really wanted to paint. This initial batch of abstract artists eventually gave in to what they really wanted to create. Abstract art was born amidst heavy criticism from their compatriots.

During the 19th to the early 20th century artists applied unconventional painting techniques that used strong paint colors and very lose brush strokes. Some of the colors they used did not represent realistic tones on their subjects. The compositions were cubist or distorted.

Other abstract styles evolved such as fauvism and surrealism. Picasso was the master of cubism art. Matisse followed Paul Cezanne in his pursuit of fauvism. Salvador Dali created his unique surrealism style. Today’s abstract artists have implemented painting techniques that these pioneers used a century ago.

The difference between the initial abstract artists and today’s abstract painters is that abstract art today is more accepted by art lovers. Back then, Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani and other artists had to face criticism from critics. People shunned their work and considered them strange.

Abstract canvas wall art today have become more innovative with the addition of mixed media being included in the artwork. Abstract canvas wall art today have evolved into 3 dimensional artworks with the use of other materials like metal and materials found in nature like sand, wood or semi precious stones.

Canvas Wall Art News: MoMA Raises Entrance Fee To $25

New York's Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)

The Museum of Modern Art in New York is raising adult admission to the museum to $25 from $20. The museum is being criticized for raising entrance fees by 25% because of a $1.6 million wage paid to Director Glenn Lowry in 2009. The increase takes effect in September 1, 2011 as a result of rising costs said the museum.

Lowry is said to have taken a 14% pay cut but still remains as one of the best paid museum directors. His wage and bonus equaled $830,000 and received $403,635 in retirement and deferred compensation. Lowry also has a housing plan in the museum’s luxury condo that is valued at $318,000.

MoMA’s Ellen Futter, who runs the American Museum of Natural History, took home $972,249 in wages and benefits in 2009 which was 0.5% higher than the previous year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art paid its new head, Thomas Campbell $929,735. The Met raised its adult admission price to $25 in July.

Futter and Campbell earned about 20 cents per visitor in 2010 while Lowry earned over 50 cents per museum visitor. Both the Museum of Natural History and the Met are public institutions that sit on city-owned land and are dependent on government funding. MoMA sits on private land and does not receive government support.

Lowry was hired from Toronto’s Art Gallery of Ontario and has since worked to double the gallery space to increase floor space. He raised $858 million to increase square footage from 40,000 to 125,000.

To expand the museum, the MoMA paid $31 million to next door American Folk Art Museum to acquire more space for the museum’s artifacts and canvas wall art collection. An agreement in 2007 involves developing a mixed-use building adjacent to MoMA to add 40,000 square feet of exhibit space.

Canvas Wall Art News: Leonardo da Vinci Artworks To Be Shown In London

Virgin of the Rocks

This winter’s Leonardo da Vinci exhibit will be shown only 3 months but took years to prepare. The National Gallery in London has announced a da Vinci exhibit on cooperation with the Department of Paintings of the Louvre.

The French have agreed to lend their version of da Vinci’s “Virgin of the Rocks” for a historic exhibit of the great artist’s works. The English will return the favor by lending Da Vinci’s Drawing of “The Virgin and Child with Saint Anne and John the Baptist” to the French.

It may sound like a simple swap of wall art but these kinds of arrangements and exhibits take years of planning a lot of diplomacy.  The show featuring Leonardo da Vinci’s wall art will open at Trafalgar Square in November.

Why Some Wall Art Are Matted And Framed

Framed canvas wall art at EverythingWallArt.com

If you just bought unframed wall art for your home, you might wonder if you need to mat and frame it. Although many art lovers display their artwork unframed, there are occasions when the artwork will look better matted and framed.

A mat is a thin piece of cardboard material with a hollow middle where the painting should be visible. Mats are decorative but are also functional materials for artworks. A frame and/or glass is placed over the mat to make it presentable.

For aesthetic reasons, choose a mat in a size that complements the size of the artwork. Bring your unframed painting with you to a framing supply store and try out several mats to see which one looks suitable. Take note of how the colors of the painting and mat coordinate or clash.

Mat boards are also functional by preventing damage to your artwork. By placing a mat on your wall art, you can prevent moisture from getting trapped between the painting’s surface and the glass. If moisture is trapped, molds will form and damage the artwork permanently.

The thin mat provides enough space for moisture or humid air to circulate or escape from beneath the glass. The mat can also prevent the artwork’s paint from sticking to the glass covering. Mats are necessary when framing paintings made of pastel and water color. These kinds of paintings also need glass over them for protection.

Paintings are framed for a number of reasons. One is to make the painting look more formal and completely “dressed up.” Another reason is to provide support to artworks painted on flimsy materials that are not supported by stretcher bars.

Artwork painted on paper or loose canvas will have to be framed. Oil and acrylic canvas wall art are versatile and can be hung without frames as long as the wall art is painted on stretched canvas or gallery wrapped canvas. They also don’t need glass and makes matting unnecessary.

Flower canvas and decorating tips for a cozy and relaxing bedroom

A bedroom has to be an oasis where the day’s worries and stress can be left behind. Creating a relaxing atmosphere in a bedroom is important if you want to be able to rest well and feel revitalized for the next day.

Here are some tips on how to make your bedroom feel serene and tranquil:

  1. If your space permits is, furnish your bedroom with large furniture that are generously upholstered with soft cushions and throw pillows. Use soft and smooth fabric for your upholstery instead of leather. Low set furniture (bed/couch/chair) tend to look more cozy.
  2. Use wooden planks for your floors and avoid cold ceramic tiles. Place plush area rugs around the bed if your flooring is less than ideal. Wall to wall carpet will make your room look and feel warmer.
  3. Install a dimmer so you can adjust the brightness in your room. Dim amber lights will create a homey ambiance. Avoid using bright white lights in your bedroom. Place lamps with medium to dark toned shades.
  4. If possible, use wall paint in medium or dark colors. If your walls are white, you can compensate by hanging some wall art to mask striking light colored walls. Hang paintings that have pleasant and easy going subjects such as landscapes, sunsets or flower canvas.
  5. Dress your windows with dark blinds or curtains to keep bright sunlight out. You won’t be able to relax during the day if your bedroom is too bright. Use heavier drapes if you will use fabric curtains to block sunlight.
  6. Blue and green colors promote relaxation. If you don’t fancy those colors for your bedroom, you can balance warm tones (red/orange/yellow) with neutral shades like brown, cream or tan. Warm colors like red or yellow are energizing.

"Portrait of a Man", 1915, Amedeo Modigliani

Desperate for cash, Goran Hadzic attempted to sell a stolen canvas wall art believed to have been painted by Amedeo Modigliani. This led authorities to his arrest as a Yugoslav war crime fugitive.

Last Wednesday, the president of Serbia announced Hadzic’s arrest who is a Croatian Serb wartime leader indicted of war crimes against humanity committed during the 1991 to 1995 Croatian War.

At a news conference, chief war crimes prosecutor Vladimir Vukcevic, said that the 52-year old fugitive was arrested in a forest near Krusedol. Serbian tabloids earlier reported that the Modigliani painting, “Portrait of a Man” was also discovered in the home of Hadzic.

Wall Art News: British Artist Lucian Freud Dies

"Reflection" (self portrait), 1985, Lucian Freud

British figurative artist Lucian Freud who is well-known for his fleshy portraits on canvas has died at the age of 88. William Acquavella, his New York art dealer and friend, announced the death of the artist at his home in London on Wednesday after a bout with an unspecified illness.

Lucian was the grandson of Sigmund Freud. Freud, the artist, is known for his figurative and landscape paintings created with much drama and energy. Acquavella described him as a warm, exciting, witty and humble person who painted until the day he died, detached from the noise of the art world.

Freud was one of the few living artists who fetched million dollar prices on his paintings at auctions. His “Benefits Supervisor Sleeping,” painted in 1995, fetched an auction record for a living artist at $33.6 million at a Christie’s auction in 2008. The painting depicts an obese woman asleep in the nude of a sofa.

The buyer of the painting was reported to be Roman Abramovich, a Russian billionaire. Freud often painted people he knew and was famous for his commissioned painting of Queen Elizabeth in 2001. The painting received criticism for portraying the Queen as a severe-looking monarch.

Freud was born in Berlin to a wealthy German family in 1922. The family fled from the Nazis to Britain in 1933 and became British citizens in 1939. As a young boy, Freud rarely attended school. “I was very solitary. I hardly spoke English. I was considered rather bad tempered, of which I was rather proud,” he artist said of himself.

Freud attended a number of colleges and had a short stint in the merchant navy before becoming a full-time artist. His style was described as refined until the 1950′s. At around 1956, Freud loosened up his style and used thicker paint.

Freud also described his own art, “As far as I am concerned the paint is the person. I want it to work for me just as flesh does.”

The painter’s wall art done in the new style were initially described by critics as “shocking,” and “violent”. The starkly intimate nature of many of his canvas wall art portraits could also make viewers feel like voyeurs.

Freud was married twice and had quite a number of children, although some people believe he fathered many more than he acknowledged.

Canvas Wall Art tips on how to furnish and decorate a small condo unit….

Decorating a small city condo is easy and very affordable since you will be using smaller furniture and will only need to place fewer decorations to fill a small space. It can be a challenge to decorate small condos when you think of all the things you need and the tiny space you have to work with.

How will you fit all those things you need in such a small condo? The secret is in getting smart furniture pieces that have more than one purpose so you can buy less furniture that will take up less floor space. Other furniture and decorations like canvas wall art can be hung on walls to free up floor space.

Multipurpose Furniture

Choose your furnishings wisely. Pick furniture that will lessen clutter yet serve more than one purpose. Storage ottomans that can double as coffee tables and an extra seat are great pieces for small living rooms in condominium units. Storage bunk beds are practical for your children’s bedroom. These storage bunk beds can hold wardrobe, toys and act as sleeping furniture for one or more kids.

Don’t Let Corners Go To Waste

Corners are often left empty. They are space that can be used for storage instead of being left useless and empty. Get corner study desks, corner shelves and wardrobe closets. Choose vertical pieces for your corners which free up more horizontal space for other furniture like beds and sofas. Don’t let corners go to waste if you can use them to clear up more space in your room.

Space saving narrow landscape canvas

Use Your Walls Instead Of  Your Floors

Hanging things on walls instead of suing free standing furniture and decor will save more space for a small condo. Instead of buying free standing shelves that occupy a lot of floor space, hang walls shelves instead. Use canvas wall art to decorate your condo, instead of decorating with things you have to place on floors or tables. Hang landscape or seascape canvas wall art that creates an illusion of more space.

Tip: Vertical things whether furniture or decor pieces save more space than horizontal furniture or decor.
